Aaronic Priesthood

Members of the Aaronic Priesthood are called to bring a temporal and preparatory ministry into the lives of those around them, pointing each person toward Jesus Christ, and helping them to deal with the demands, temptations and influences faced by Christians in today's world.

The Aaronic Order of Priesthood is made up of three specialized ministers:   Deacon, Teacher, and Priest.  Each of these three offices has specific duties and responsibilities, yet are all called to minister to the temporal needs of the people.

  • The Deacon focuses on congregational ministry, mostly with individuals and with the property of the church.  The Deacon's role includes:  financial guidance & help, facility upkeep & maintenance, being a friend & being available to the members of the church family

  • The Teacher focuses on "relationship ministries", including: peacemaking, interpersonal relationships, effective communications, being a friend & being available to listen

  • The Priest focuses on "family ministries": teaching family prayer, respect, encouragement, and provides leadership in the temporal sacraments, especially baptism, marriage

Most members of the Aaronic Priesthood focus their ministry almost exclusively on their home congregations, serving as "standing ministers" in their congregation.  Some may also be called to serve as traveling ministers, providing their unique temporal ministry in other congregations as well - especially those holding the office of Priest.

More details about each office, and the areas of specialized ministry within each office, can be found on our International Headquarters website's priesthood page.
